It’s been two days since BMW introduced the new 6-Series Gran Coupe and already it’s on many people’s shopping list in 2012.

Of course you can put a BMW badge on a wheelbarrow and people would still buy it, but there’s much more to the Gran Coupe than just good reputation.

It is based on the current 6-Series for a start, which is one of the best-looking coupes around, and offers greater practicality with two extra doors. It is also longer in length which means it has more space inside the cabin, but it hasn’t ruined the design and it still looks composed and elegant.

It also launches with three great engines, two I6s – one diesel one petrol – and a meaty petrol V8, before an M version comes along.  It’s got everything it needs to beat Mercedes CLS and Audi A7 in their own game.
