Now that the Mercedes E-Class Hybrid is official, BMW didn’t wait for the Spring to confirm the new 5-Series hybrid – known as ActiveHybrid 5 – pricing for the U.S. market.
And it’s $61,845, including the $895 Destination and Handling charge. The ActiveHybrid 5 utilizes BMW’s 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder engine, an electric drive system and an 8-speed automatic transmission to achieve 44 – 40 mpg.
As for the performance, with 335hp at the tap this hybrid 5er does 0 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds. The lithium-ion high-voltage battery can store sufficient energy to give an all-electric driving range of up to approximately 2.5 miles (4 km) at an average speed of 22 mph (35 km/h). The top speed in this mode is 37 mph (60 km/h).
Sales of 2012 BMW ActiveHybrid 5 is scheduled fro Spring 2012.
