This year BMW will return to DTM racing after six years, and they’re coming in heavy.

The racing M3’s won’t be the only BMWs on the grid throughout the 2012 season. BMW apparently is going to provide a safety car for the series as well.

It is based on an M3 and based on the pictures they released on Facebook, it features a couple of mods over the standard car to be well prepared for the job. Visually, it gets a light bar, black wheels and mirrors and also a black til spoiler, and also air vents in the bonnet which can be a sign of added power. BMW has not announced any fact and figures on the car yet.

Inside the cabin regular racing bits such as a sport Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, bucket seats and steel pedals.

We shall be seeing more of this car soon, now that the embargo is broken.
