If these patent filings published on a German website are to be believed, Mercedes-Benz is working on a four-door version of the SLS super car.
And it’s not a proper four-door either. As you can clearly see in the pictures, the four-door SLS retains its gullwing doors, while adding two rear-hinged side doors for access to the backseats.
That is of course very similar to the old Mazda RX-8.
To make room for four people, Mercedes will have to elongate the SLS. Now, just try to imagine such car in your mind. Looks ungainly, doesn’t it? Now imagine it with all four doors open. That is just plain ridiculous!
Such car would also be heavy, slow, and as far as we can work out pointless. We hope these patents are only for a study concept or something like that.
