2013 Mercedes G65 AMG Launches with 612-hp V12

Mercedes Benz G Class at 2013 Mercedes G65 AMG Launches with 612 hp V12

Reports from Germany regarding the next version of Mercedes G Class are pretty heartwarming. While everybody was anticipating  the extinction V12 engines in 2012, they’re going on stronger than ever. The new Ferrari has a V12, yesterday we told you about the Mercedes SL65 AMG which has a V12, and now, apparently, there’s a new G-Class coming with a V12. Viva La V12!

This 2013 Mercedes G65 AMG will be powered by the same power-train and 7-speed AMG Speedshift 7G-Tronic transmission as the SL65, but instead of 630 hp, which is what the SL gets, it makes a more sensible 612, or the same as the current version of AMG bi-turbo V12. It’ll be a slightly more fuel efficient though.

It is truly fantastic, having a military-grade SUV garnished with lots and lots of luxury amenities, and an atomic bomb under the bonnet. But we always preferred the old G55 AMG. The power in that car is just enough, and I mean enough. 612-hp is nice, but do you really need that much? Can you really use it? Is it worth the extra pay?

The V12 G65 does not make much sense as a car, but it is fabulous as a toy. And it’s very, very cool.
