Just as the new BMW M3 DTM is getting ready for its return to touring car racing after an absence of 25 years, the Bavarian car maker released an awesome promo video, reminiscing about the 3-Series good old days in motorsport and also as the definitive sports sedan for the road. No one’s sure how the M3 will stack up against the tough competition from Audi and Mercedes, but at least on paper it should be a good match. One thing’s for sure though, the M3 is the best-looking DTM car on the grid, especially in BMW racing colors.
The success of the BMW M3 started 25 years ago with Roberto Ravaglia. Thanks to the BMW M3, he was standing on the podium as the first World Touring Car Champion. In the same year, 1987, the German Touring Car Championship (DTM) also went to the new BMW M3, with Eric van de Poele behind the wheel. Since then, the BMW 3 Series is known as a car with a sporty character.
