These are the first pictures of the new, facelifted, 2013 BMW X1, leaked ahead of official debut at the New York Auto Show. And we know what you’re thinking; this isn’t new. Well, you do have a point it looks almost exactly the same as the current X1, and just as ugly. But if you look at it hard enough you notice there a couple of changes in the styling.
Those changes include new fog lamps, a new silver lip on the front bumper, mildly revised head and taillights, and silver side steps. And that’s enough reason for BMW to call this car new. It’s the same story inside the cabin, which apart from some unnoticeable ergonomic changes applied to the center console, it’s same old, same old.
In BMW’s defense, the X1 is new to the American market, so they didn’t need to come up with a major makeover for it. That must be reserved for the next European version of the car.
The 2013 BMW X1 goes on sale in the U.S. with the sDrive28i rear-drive version, powered by a 240-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine — and with an eight-speed transmission, starting at $31,545. The xDrive AWD version of the same car will cost $33,245, while the top of the line X1 xDrive35i with a 300-hp straight-six engine $39,345.
