Peugeot 205 GTI is without a shadow of doubt one of the most iconic hot hatches of all time. It doesn’t cut it anymore in today’s world of 300bhp hatchbacks, but in its day it was one fast little fella. A good one of these sells today for as much as £5,000. Now, a specialist from UK called Pug1off, announced an update program for the GTi that brings it up to modern-day standards.
First of all, they replace the 130bhp engine in the standard 205 GTI with an XU10J4RS unit, and then upgrade it to 195 hp. Stuff they put in there include tubular exhaust manifold, modified inlet housing and ECU remap, 2.5 inch diameter stainless steel exhaust system, Group N engine mounts and lightweight billet steel flywheel.
If you go for the optional transmission upgrade, they hook you up with a BE3/6 6-speed gearbox from the Peugeot 306 GTI-6 / Rallye. Then there’s the brakes, which are a tweaked version of the system used in the Peugeot 206 GTI.
Other goodies Pug1off can offer include a completely modern suspension system with Bilstein and Eibach components, Motorsport seats, harnesses and roll cages, as well as paint jobs.
It’s all very nice, but the cost of the complete conversion program is a whopping £10,128, not including the base car. That sounds like a lot for what’s, at the end of the day, a Peugeot 205!
