2013 Shelby GT500 Dyno and Top Speed Test

Muscle cars are all about performance figures. That will never change, not even in this day and age efficiency, looks, and feel. That is why once guys from MT’s Ignition show got their hands on a brand-new Shelby GT500 they decided the best course of action is to hit the test track and put Ford’s rather big claims about this car into test.

They first hit the dyno to check how many of those 662 horses that GT’s supercharged V8 makes actually make it to the ground. The result is 583 horsepower, which considering drivetrain loss and everything, is still impressive, and more than what the ZL1 makes at the crankshaft.

The top speed run was not very successful. Ford says this is a 200 mph car, and it definitely is, but in this test, with the elevation and heat taken into account, they couldn’t do better than 196 mph. That is still pretty darn fast for a car with a base price of under $60K and a big boot.
