BMW’s new four-door coupe based on the 6-Series will go on sale in the UK in June, stating from £63,900. The Gran Coupe might be a bit late to the four-door coupe game, but boy is it well-prepared. The looks are pretty much the same as the 6er coupe – only this one has four doors – and it comes with a lineup of great engines. On top of all that, the 6-Series has always been one of the best-engineered cars in the world.
BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe is offered in UK with three engines; a petrol V8, a petrol V6, and a diesel V6. The diesel unit for the 640d is a straight-six 313-hp engine that does nearly 50 mpg. It is so good it almost makes the starlight-six petrol – 640i – redundant, as it makes 320-hp, only 7 more, but cannot do better than 35 mpg.
Your best bet is of course the 650i powered by a 450-hp V8 engine which also makes 650 Nm of torque. Not that it matters, but it does 31 mpg, which is great for a muscular V8 like this.
All three engines drive through an eight-speed automatic transmission and come with the full suite of EfficientDynamics technologies, including Auto Start-Stop, ensuring highly responsive performance goes hand-in-hand with low fuel consumption and emissions.
