With a few months to go until the new generation of Mercedes A Class hit the showrooms in September 2012, the German auto maker released pricing details of the car for the European market. There is no easy way of saying this, so lets cut to the chase. The new A-Class starts at  €23,978.50, and goes up to a whipping €36,860.25. It is very expensive for a hatchback, but then it’s a premium product.

Yes, you are paying a big price for this, but what you get in return in a great car. For one thing, there’s no shortage of fancy features regardless of the trim level you choose. With air conditioning, Audio 5 USB, electric windows all round, Headlamp Assist and 12-button multifunction steering wheel, the A-Class is already fully equipped even in its base configuration. So it wins the value for money argument.

With “Urban”, “Style” and “AMG Sport” appointment lines, three design packages (“Night”, “Exclusive” and “AMG Exclusive”) as well as further optional extras, it will satisfy every need. Mind you, some of the options are really pricey, stuff like the Intelligent Light System (€1666), electrically adjustable front seats with memory function (from €398.65) or dashboard finished in ARTICO man-made leather (part of the Exclusive package costing from €1249.50).

The A-Class also offers a good range of engine. The A 180 CDI CDI BlueEFFICIENCY is the one for economy-minded drivers with CO2 rating as little as 98 g/km. Normal people can choose between the A 180 and A 200 petrol models, and those who want a sporty hatchback can go for the top of the line A 250 sport.

The A 250 comes with exclusive 18-inch AMG light-alloy wheels in a 5-spoke design with 235/40 R 18 tyres all round and painted in high-gloss black with a high-sheen finish, together with red-painted brake callipers. It also has unique interior appointments and exhausts system.
