Mercedes CLK GTR was only produced because they needed 25 road-going versions of the race car they’d designed to take on Porsche GT1 in FIA GT championship. The car served no real purpose, but even so, everybody looked at it as a full-blooded super car. These days CLK GTRs are among the most sought after models in auctions.

Speaking of which, a CLK GTR – number 1 of 25 – is going under the hammer at RM Auctions event this Friday.

Basically a road-legal race car, this CLK GTR is a homologated GT1 car made by AMG and upgraded by H.W.A. Compared to its racing brothers, this car benefits from leather interior, small storage compartments, air conditioning unit, and anti-lock brakes. But it is still not what you call comfy. You have to squeeze yourself real hard to fit in it, and you need some real skills to drive it.

That’s because the CLK GTR has a monstrous V-12 engine developing 720 bhp, delivered to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential gearbox. The rest of it is pretty much identical to the race car, with double wishbone push-rod actuated coil spring suspension and carbon brake discs.

This particular car has 1,335 miles on the clock, which is not surprising as cars like this spend most of their time in air conditioned garages than on the road. It also comes with numerous additional items, including two pieces of luggage, a first aid kit, a Mercedes-Benz tire pump, battery charger, and spare tire inflator.

RM expects the car to fetch between $1,250,000 to $1,500,000 USD.
