Nissan GT R 2012 at Next Nissan GTR Due In 2018

Over the past few weeks we’ve been hearing rumors that Nissan is going to kill off the mighty GTR after the 2013 modelyear. Those reports said Nissan has no idea at the moment what to do with the next generation. But the guys at Edmunds have learned that the Godzilla is far from dead, and an all-new version of it is on the way for 2018 launch.

Granted, that’s a long time to wait for a new GTR, but to keep customers happy there are a couple of refreshes planned for the current car, starting with a facelift next year. The mid-life refresh of the R35 GTR will give it new front and rear fascia, as well as a further tweaked powerplant.

As for the next generation model, sources say Nissan is waiting to see what Honda is going to do with the new NSX super car. So chances are the 2018 GTR will be a hybrid. The car was originally planned for a 2015 launch, but is now pushed back to give Nissan engineers enough time to come up with something worthy of the GTR badge. The current car’s status is not something they can take for granted. The new model must be faster and even more mind-boggling.

We hope they also pay a little attention to the car’s refinement. It really is not easy living with the R35 on a daily basis.
