True BMW fans know that whenever the letters C, S and L come after the name of an M3 the result is a very special car. The current E92 series didn’t get a CSL version, which is a shame. And that is probably why REIL chose an old E46 M3 CSL for this program. CSL M3 are lightened, focused versions of the car that cost more than the standard, but get less equipment. You in fact pay for the superior performance they deliver.
What REIL has done here to the E46 CSL, of which only 1383 units were ever produced, is turn it into a full-blooded track car. So to begin with they boosted the power of its legendary 3.2 liter straight-six from 360 horsepower to 392, and made it even lighter.
To shed more weight they replaced some of the panels with carbon fibre, and side windows and rear window with plexiglass. Then to stop it floating at highspeed, they hooked it up with a rear wing borrowed from a Porsche GT3. The car also gets MR Car Design exhaust system, BBS Motorsport wheels with Yokohama, Bilstein suspension, Porsche GT3 braking system, and finally a dark blue wrap from CFC foil, complemented by light blue and cherry red accents.
The finished product cost around 130,000 euros, but it will be an utter joy race with it, especially as it’s capable of recording a 7:43 min Nurburgring lap time.
