New Ford Mondeo at 1.0 Liter EcoBoost For The New Ford Mondeo

The new version of the European Ford Mondeo, known in America as the Fusion, is going to get a three-cylinder 1.0 liter engine. But don’t despair, it’s the world-renowned 1.0 liter EcoBoost engine, and in the Mondeo it offers 125PS and 170Nm of torque (and up to 200Nm in “overboost” mode), delivered from just 1450rpm.

So basically it’s like an enter-level four-cylinder model, only much more economical. Also with CO2 emissions of less than 130g/km, this engine is more polar bear-friendly and attracts less tax as well.

This amazing engineering marvel is so small it can fit on an A4 paper, but features  advanced technologies including twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT), a compact, low-inertia turbo that spins at 248,000rpm, direct fuel injection, an aluminium cylinder head with integrated exhaust manifold, low friction piston coatings, low tension piston rings, low friction crank seals and a cambelt-in-oil design.

A racing version of this engine recently set the 11th fastest lap record of all time at the Nurburgring.
