BMW 114d at 2013 BMW 114d Announced For The UK

As part of its model update, from November BMW UK will launch a new version of the 1-Series in Britain powered by a 1.6-litre version of the four-cylinder diesel engine with TwinPower Turbo technology. It’s known by its 114d badge, and it offers 95hp and 235Nm of torque. Of course with figures like that the performance will be a bit shabby, but the economy is excellent.

The 114d will manage an impressive average fuel consumption of 65.7mpg and CO2 emissions of just 112g/km. Those are fantastic figures for a large hatchback like this. On the downside, it’ll take 12.2 seconds to get to 60mph from nought, and the top speed is only 115 mph, which is annoying.

But then this will be bought by people who can live with slow performance for the sake of greater fuel economy. The engine in this 1er is only part of what makes it so efficient. The car also comes as standard with a range of EfficientDynamics technologies, including Brake Energy Regeneration, Optimum Shift Indicator, Auto Start-Stop, electromechanical power steering, Active Aerodynamics and reduced rolling resistance tyres. It even has an ECO PRO mode which basically alters your driving style for better fuel efficiency.

BMW 114d is available to order now on both the 3-door and 5-door variants. Prices and specs are yet to be announced.
