Audi announced a limited production run of its SQ5 TDI Exclusive Concept. Let’s cut to the chase. It’s a diesel-powered crossover based on the Q5, it has 313 horsepower, it is limited to 50 units, and it costs a whopping €92,000! Even is this thing was powered by Audi’s V10 engine it wouldn’t be worth 90 grand. It’s ridiculous.
What Audi is saying, basically, is that this diesel Q5 – widely regarded as one of the most boring cars in its class – is a finer car than a V8-powered Range Rover, which costs about the same.
In Audi’s defense, that diesel engine does provide a good blend of performance and economy with a 0 to 100 km/h time of 5.1 seconds and 39.2 mpg. But there are cheaper, and more interesting ways of achieving that kind of numbers.
You might be thinking it’s kinda worth it because with a production run of just 50 units, it’ll be exclusive. Well, yes, but nobody will notice in a million years that your car is a SQ5 and not a Q5. The SQ5 does feature different wheels, aluminum look mirrors, xenon headlights and LED daytime lights, as well as four tailpipes at the back. But on the surface it seems no different than a standard Q5, so what’s the point.
Interior features include leather multifunction sports steering wheel, Napa leather accenting on the gear lever, black, woven leather in the centre section of the seats, and Alcantara headlining.
This car is currently at the top of our list for the stupidest cars of 2012!
