Audi is going to try once again making a diesel-powered super car. Their previous efforts resulted in the magnificent R8 V12 TDI Concept, which never made it into production. This time they seem to be serious, and they are thinking about a diesel-electric hybrid system.
Audi already has a formidable diesel electric powertrain in its possession, the system that won the R18 e-Tron quattro a Le Mans victory. The hybrid system will enable Audi to replace the heavy and illogical V12 TDI engine that killed the previous project with a compact and more efficient V8, and still get the power and performance they desire.
That is all the info available on the car right now, in addition to the fact that it will use a carbon monocoque chassis, and that it will probably be called R10.
