BMW X3 at BMW X4 Set For 2013 Detroit Debut

Based on the latest insider reports BMW is preparing a concept version of the new X4 crossover, to be shown at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show. Basically a Sport Activity version of the X3, BMW X4 will be an answer to the cars like Porsche Macan and Mercedes MLC, both still in the pipeline.

The X4 can be considered as a discount version of BMW X6. With am estimated starting price of about $42,000, it’ll offer roughly the same profile with a swooping roofline which. if the X6 is any indication, means terrible rear headroom and poor rear visibility. It will look good though.

Well, sort of. You see, the X4, apart from the X6-inspired profile, will be based on the X3. Sources says that the design of the X4 will differ fro the X3 in the same way that the X6 differs from the X5. So it will probably get the same sort of front-end design, which to be honest isn’t very good. There is nothing wrong with it, but it lacks beauty and charm. A bit of modification here would be a welcome change.

As for the technicalities, the X4 will get all-wheel-drive, and a range of diesel and petrol engines. Good news is, BMW has already planned an M version, as well as a super diesel variant of the new car.
