As you may know, GM Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson is going to auction off his most prized possession, a 1958 Corvette, at Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, and donate all the proceeds to Habitat for Humanity Detroit. It is way more than a nice gesture by Mr. Akerson. This car means a lot to him, as he explains in the video after the jump, and the fact that he’s selling this particular car for Detroit is very cool indeed.

The money will be used by Habitat for Humanity Detroit in its efforts to rebuild the Morningside Commons neighborhood located just east of GM’s Renaissance Center world headquarters in downtown Detroit.
