New Lotus Esprit Almost Ready

The new Esprit is the only project that survived after the ex-CEO of Lotus Dany Bahar was fired. The new management canceled all the other projects, and although they didn’t bin the Esprit, they are yet to green light it.

While the top brass was trying to get themselves together and save the company from dissolving, Lotus designers and engineers kept their heads down and worked on the new Esprit. They have almost finished the car now; only a few final tests, and it’s good to go.

The engineers work is done, but the management team still doesn’t know what it wants to do. There is still a good chance that Lotus’ current owner, the Malaysian DBR, decide to sell the company. So the Esprit is still far from becoming a production model.

If they finally get around to making it though, the new British super car will boast very impressive specs. Power comes from a KERS-enabled V8 engine, with maximum output of 650 horsepower. In keeping with Lotus tradition, the car will also be very light – thanks to a carbon/aluminum construction.
