Following confirmation of Pro_Ceed GT production, Kia now releases a new teaser shot and announces the car’s performance specs. Going on sale in mid-2013, the three-door Kia Pro_Ceed GT and the five-door Kia Ceed GT will become the brand’s first proper hot hatchbacks.
The GT lineup will be powered by Kia’s 1.6 liter GDI engine which features direct injection and a twin-scroll turbocharger. It makes 204 ps (201 bhp) and 265 Nm (195 lb/ft), which isn’t exactly mind-blowing, but rather enough to make the car hot.
True to the spirit of a proper hot hatch, the GT comes with a six-speed manual gearbox. It can do 0 to 62 mph in 7.9 seconds. Again, nothing special, but acceptable considering the efficiency of that engine.
Visual features of the Ceed GT family include new grilles and lamp clusters, deeper bumpers, unique 18-inch alloy wheels, red brake calipers and special paint finishes, with a party piece that is four-point LED daytime running lights. They give the car a unique character. The sporty theme continues inside where you get Recaro sports seats, alloy pedals and bespoke surface materials.
