MEC Design has come up with an unusually ostentatious styling it for the old Mercedes SL (Type R230). Their body kits are mostly subtle and dignified, but this one is very in your face and daring, and not in a good way. With the R230 now out of production, MEC probably wanted to go crazy and give it a proper sendoff.

The kit comes with lots of details and you can choose what the parts according to your taste. You get the bumpers and wide wheel arches and stuff, but get to choose the front spoiler; do you want it big or smile, or do you want them in naked carbon or painted? They got you covered.

There is also new side openings, which again you can have them in carbon also. Around at the back, you get MEC’s diffuser, optionally in carbon fiber, with MEC exhaust’s tailpipes. They also offer a diffuser that matches AMG’s stock tailpipes. Another feature here is lateral fins right and left. A rear spoiler is also available, and yes, it can be had in exposed carbon fiber.

Some of the details we don’t like at all are the vented bonnet and the LEDs under the door sills. They are seriously uncool.

MEC will make 15 units of this kit, and offers a unique wheel/tire combination for it, 11×20 with 285/25 ZR 20 + 14×21 with 375/20 ZR 20.
