Earlier this month Mercedes and AMG revealed a new version of the E63 executive saloon, and while the standard car with 557 horsepower is hugely impressive, the S-Model version is what everybody is going to want. So let’s take a closer to this ultra-hot AMG sedan.
The S-Model treatment including a power boost for the AMG 5.5 liter biturbo V8 engine up to 585 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque. It has something to do with the boost adjustment on those turbochargers from 0.9 to 1.0 bar
To harness that enormous power, the S-Model comes as standard with a 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system. This is an AMG-developed 4MATIC, which means it is set up for fun. Unlike the conventional AWD system, you will find no understeer here because when the performance-oriented 4MATIC only sends about 30 percent of the power to the front wheels.
Mercedes has fitted the E63 with a 3-stage ESP system that adjusts the bias depending on the driving mode. It even has Torque Vectoring brakes. You can still pull spectacular slides despite the all-wheel-drive system.
As much fun as it is to put the E63 through some tight bends, it is the straight line performance of the S-Model that is the best part of it. It goes from zero to 100 km/h in a mind-boggling 3.6 seconds. Top speed is, as usual, limited to 250 km/h, with a 300 km/h limit available as an optional extra.
Prices for the new Mercedes E63 AMG S-Model start from 118,405 Euro for the saloon and 121,023 Euro for the estate version.
