Earlier today Mercedes revealed the new E63 AMG with an S-Model variant and wowed everybody with the performance numbers they claimed. Now turns out that is not the only good news today. They just announced the CLS63 AMG is also getting the S-Model, and with the same 4Matic system, and the same astonishing performance.

Just like the big E, the CLS63 S-Model is powered by a 430 kW (585 hp) and up to 800 Nm of torque version of the 5.5 liter AMG biturbo V8 engine. It guzzles 10.5 liter of fuel per 100 km, but in return gives you a 0 to 100 km/h time of 3.6 seconds. This new AMG 4Matic all-wheel-drive system must be some kind of witchcraft, because the performance is just unreal.

The performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive distributes the engine torque at a ratio of 33 to 67 percent (front/rear axle). The rear-biased power distribution provides for signature AMG high driving dynamics and superlative driving enjoyment.

It works in tandem with a 3-stage ESP system. In “SPORT Handling” mode, the Torque Vectoring Brake performs selective braking intervention on individual wheels in the interests of high agility, thereby avoiding understeering when turning and cornering. In bends, specific brief braking of the inner rear wheel results in defined cornering of the vehicle. So the S-Model AMGs should have totally different handling characteristics than ordinary models.

The best thing is that you can use these cars all-year-round, because the AWD system is not there just to make the car accelerate like faster; it also gives you plenty of traction. AMG has also upgraded the braking system for the S-Model. In terms of exterior design, the CLS 63 AMG S-Model is differentiated from the other models by brake callipers in a red painted finish and the AMG logo on the trunk lid sporting an “S” in contrasting black.
