Even though the 5-Series GT wasn’t a successful model, BMW top brass went ahead of greenlighted a GT version of the 3-Series. Based on the F30 series, the new 3er GT is much better looking that the 5er, but it still has that controversial rear-end.

These are the first official images of the 3-Series GT leaked onto the web ahead of the car’s possible debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

We could never make sense of BMW GT models. They slot between the sedan and wagon versions of the Series on which they are based, offering more practicality than the sedan, but without the station wagon shape. That is the funny part, because the Touring (wagon) versions of both 5-Series and 3-Series are very attractive cars, even better than the sedans. Why would you want to sacrifice looks and practicality, and get this stupid GT?

BMW obviously thinks they are onto something here, because they are also working on a GT version of the 1-Series.
