Erebus Motorsport has picked the new Mercedes E63 AMG as its official race car for the 2013 season of Australian V8 Supercars Series. Back in the day V8 Supercars used to be a battlefield for GM and Ford products to slug it out on the race track in brutal fashion. Now though it’s become more international with more and more car makers taking part.
AMG has good relations with Erebus Motorsport who is already running an SLS GT3 customer race car in the GT series. They will be getting three E63s, modified and customized to comply with V8 Supercars rules, which dictate the engines must be capped at 5.0 liters and 650 horsepower max. The chassis are also standard across the grid, which brings everything down to the engine, and the driver’s courage.
V8 Supercars has always been one of the greatest forms of motorsport to watch, and although these globalization may result in introduction of new safety rules and tame the contenders a bit, but compared to, say, Formula 1, it is still highly pure.
