If your aspiration to drive a BMW sedan has always been thwarted by your budget, then for you this just might be good news week. The new BMW 320i sedan has just been released with an entry level price of around the $33,000 USD mark.

For this money, the gadget counter is not going to in the red, but you will still be getting plenty of bangs for your buck. 180 horsepower under the hood propels the car to 60 mph in just over 7 seconds, with the top speed electronically pinned at 130 mph.

The standard 320i is an eight speed automatic, with a six speed manual transmission listed in the options. The quoted gas mileage is impressive for a 2 litre car with 22 mpg and 34 mpg in and out of town respectively. The 320i xDrive model, with all wheel drive and no manual option, sips an extra mpg on both.

Safety is high on the list of reasons for choosing to drive a BMW sedan, and it is here where the 320i definitely delivers. Despite the entry level price, the 320i boasts a class leading list of safety features and driver aids. Included as standard are automatic and dynamic stability control, dynamic traction and brake control, cornering brake control, assisted start and brake drying. Should you ever get stuck, there is even an electronic limited slip on the differential to help pull you out, again as standard.

The 320i’s low price sticker outside the showrooms may well draw them in. However, for prospective buyers sticking to their decision to buy the plain vanilla car may not be easy. The extensive range of models, variants and options on offer are there to tempt.

The 320i comes in 2, 4 and 5 door variants, with hatchback and convertible options. Having decided on a body shape and number of doors, there is the list of upgrade packages to be ruled in or out. BWW currently list Premium, Driver Assistance, Lighting, and Cold Weather Packages as being available on this model.

The options list is well worth careful consideration too, as it includes both practical and luxury items. Working through these, my pick would be the 4 door 320i with the Navigation and Dakota leather options. Other options that would be tempting? Well, that is quite a long list.
