Audi took the wraps off the new A3 sedan family, including the S3 version, revealing its smallest offering in the American market. It is pretty much identical to the A3 hatchback in Europe, but with a nicely designed trunk that offers 425 liters of luggage space.

The car measures at 175.5 inches long, 70 inches wide and 55.7 inches tall, and has a wheelbase of 103.4 inches – similar to the original Audi A4 from 1994. Kerb weight for both models is somewhere around 1,205kg, and both use many hot-formed steel parts in the passenger compartment for maximum strength, and aluminum in the rest of the car for low weight.

The S3 model is more interesting of the two, not just because it comes with a styling kit consisting of front and rear spoiler, side skirts, larger wheels and lowered sport suspension, but also because it boasts a 2.0-liter TFSI engine with 300PS and 380Nm of torque. It gives the car a 0-60mph time of 5.3 seconds and a limited top speed of 155.

As for the A3, it will launch with a range of efficient engines, including a 1.4 TFSI, a 1.8 TFSI, 2.0 TFSI, and a 2.0 TDI clean diesel. Depending on the engine chosen, the standard transmission is either a manual six-speed or the S tronic dual-clutch gearbox.

The new Audi A3 sedan will launch in Europe in Autumn 2013 for around 25,000 Euro, with the S3 following in early 2014. U.S. pricing and specs will be confirmed later.
