The 1933 Essex Terraplane owned by the world famous criminal John Dillinger has left the Crime Museum in Washington on parole to become a centerpiece at the Indianapolis International Airport (IND) for the next two years. This is to remind the people of Indiana of the good old days of crime and terror!
The Essex still has a couple of bullet holes from the days it was Dillinger’s personal ride. The car has been involved in a shootout with the Police and it helped Johnny escape even though he was shot in the leg. It has an amazing history. It can raise millions if they ever decide to auction it. The car will remain on display at the IND till March 2015.
Dillinger was eventually killed by the law enforcement officers at a theater in Chicago in July 1934. His character was portrayed by Johnny Depp in Public Enemies.
“IND passengers, visitors, and employees will find this well-preserved relic used by an infamous member of Indiana’s past a fascinating exhibit,” said Bob Duncan, executive director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority. “This vintage automobile is a living piece of a story that once gripped the nation and that intersects with our local history as well.”
