BMW revealed its lineup of safety cars for the 2013 season of Moto GP championship, and it includes the new BMW M6 Grand Coupe as the pace car. This year BMW is celebrating its 15th season as “Official Car of MotoGP”.

The Moto GP safety cars fleet comprises five BMW M and M Performance models. Besides the M6 GC, you have the M6 Coupe, the M5 and the M3, doing various jobs as safety cars. There is also two BMW M550d xDrive Tourings as medical cars, while BMW Motorrad will provide two new BMW HP4s as Safety Bikes. I don’t care much for bikes and bike racing, but if Moto GP is hiring safety car drivers, sign me up!

The M6 Gran Coupe is the spearhead of the safety car fleet. This four-door coupe is identical to the M6 Coupe in terms of power and performance. The car features a 4.4 liter V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology generating 412 kW/560 hp. With a 0 to 100 km/h sprint time of 4.2 seconds, the M6 is nowhere near as quick as the bikes it will be pacing, but then again no car is. The Safety Car version of the BMW M6 Gran Coupe has been specially modified for its use as a pace car out on the racetrack.

It is a serious bit of kit, the M6. We also dig its safety car livery with BMW M colors.
