A few days after this intriguing teaser, Citroen reveals the first pictures and details of its new DS Wild Rubis Concept for 2013 Shanghai Auto Show. This crossover vehicle expands the DS lineup by applying its signature design cues to a sport utility concept.
Being a Citroen DS, the Wild Rubis is still pretty quirky. But it’s not like all crazy. The car looks virtually production ready. Its compact dimensions of 4.7m L, 1.95m W and 1.59m H and a wheelbase of 2.9m are perfect for compact crossover. The concept rides on 21-inch wheels, which may need to be downsized a bit if Rubis went into production.
The name Wild Rubis is apparently derived from words ‘wild and rebellious’, which are not on the line with the car’s full-hybrid plug-in powertrain. You could call the design rebellious though, what with that bold grille, full-LED headlights, and the amount of chrome used in every bit of it. Even the ruby red color of the exterior is designed so it complements the chrome parts.
We love Citroen’s DS lineup. They manage to be fun and slightly naughty without compromising on the qualities you expect from a refined, comfortable car. It is not clear yet if the Wild Rubi has any chance of production.
