Just because your life in SimCity is virtual doesn’t mean it cannot be environmentally-friendly! Nissan has teamed up with Electronic Arts to integrate the first electric vehicle into the strategy game, allowing users to create EV-friendly cities.
Gamers can install up to five Nissan-branded charging stations throughout their cities free of charge. What’s more, to encourage EV driving and developing charging infrastructure for EVs, they get a one-time wave of “happiness,” a key reward mechanism in the game. It’s a good thing then the LEAF is the only EV in the game, because if there was, say, a Tesla Model S or even a Focus electric in there, LEAF drivers wouldn’t be “smiling” so hard.
As sad as it is that some people spend their precious lives building virtual cities in a computer, making those cities green is an even more preposterous idea. But hey, you have to kill the time somehow if you have no job and no girlfriend!
“Even virtual cities recognize that electric vehicles are the future of a sustainable mobile society, and Nissan is excited to start helping SimCity players make their cities more environmentally friendly by adding its zero-emission Nissan LEAF to the game,” said Jon Brancheau, vice president, Marketing, Nissan North America, Inc. “Nissan remains committed to finding innovative ways to promote the development of EV infrastructure and to bringing practical, affordable electric vehicles to markets throughout the United States.”
