BMW drivers are trying really hard to shake off the image that is associated with them. They are no longer wearing Bluetooth handsfree devices; they have limited the use of PowerPoint to a minimum; and they don’t engage others in a technical debate at dinner parties. But BMW is not helping. They have just come up with a new app that will bring it all back.
The BMW M Power App is an all-in-one telemetry solution for track driving. Once connected to your BMW, it utilizes the car’s sensors like the G meter and GPS to provide the driver with some nerdilicious information.
The app can time your laps, obviously, and lets you review your performance with a head-to-head ghost car feature. It is not limited to the race track either. You can time your trip to the grocery store and back, and try to shave a few second off it the next time. How (un)cool is that?!
Then there is the scoreboard feature that is good for bragging rights – something that BMW drivers love very much. Going deeper into the app you menus for throttle, steering and braking input, G-Force calculator, and fuel efficiency data.
To use this app, available from summer, you need an iDevice with iOS6 or higher, and a USB cable.
