Confirming the rumors the Nissan is bringing back the Terrano nameplate with an all-new SUV, the Indian branch of the Japanese car maker released an official sketch of the forthcoming arrival. Turns out it’s not all new. The new Terrano will actually be based on the Dacia Duster, the cheapest new SUV you can buy in Europe.
That is not such a bad thing. The Dacia Duster is a fairly serious bit of kit. It is rugged, solid, and versatile. Where it has deep issues is in terms of styling, features, and the image of the brand. The Terrano will get all the good stuff the Duster has to offer, and wrap it up in a nice package with a cool exterior design and decent interior features. That sounds like an interesting proposition.
The same will probably apply to the engine lineup, and Nissan will swap the Renault engines in the Dacia for some of its own. The Terrano will definitely be more expensive than the Duster, and probably won’t show its face in the markets where the Duster has good sales record. It will still be very affordable though.
Kenichiro Yomura, President and CEO of Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd: Terrano will play a key role in increasing sales within the Indian market. I am delighted to reveal both the name and the very first image of what will be a very important model for Nissan. You can see from the sketch that Terrano has a bold and distinctive design that I am confident will appeal to our growing customer base in India, as will its driving performance and range of other features that will be revealed at a later date.
