The Midnight Opal is a special edition version of the 2014 Nissan GT-R released in the U.S. market, of which only 50 units will be produced. It costs an extra 6 grand over the GT-R Premium model, and comes with a special exterior color, unique wheel color, serialized plaque, carbon fiber spoiler.
At $105,590 USD, the Midnight Opal GT-R is not really the performance bargain it used to be when it first came out. And as for the extra garnish this version comes with, save that paint work the rest of it are not very significant, and they won’t make the car any more refined and livable.
Still, if you like the exclusivity of that limited edition plaque, you are going to love this car. Its exclusive color changes appearance slightly from a deep purple to a deep blue depending on light conditions and viewing angle; it has hyper-titanium colored coating on its RAYS wheels; and it has a carbon fiber rear spoiler borrowed from the track models. The interior remain pretty much intact as well, save the performance bucket seats and the 1-speaker Bose sound system with speakers mounted in rigid aluminum die cast panels.
No change has been made to the powertrain, but that’s OK, because the VR38DETT 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 rated at 545 hp and 463 lb-ft of torque is still one of the sickest engines in the world.
