So that ‘unique version of the F-Type’ promised by Jaguar for this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed was not the Coupe or the F-Type R. It’s a one-off design study called the Project 7, and it is an homage to the legendary Jaguar D-type.

Actually, it could very well be the F-Type R. All the specs suggest that someday a production version of the Project 7 will be released called the F-Type R. Well, it probably won’t have that D-Type-inspired rear fairing section, but the powertrain is spot on perfect for such a model.

The Project 7 features the same supercharged 5.0 liter V8 as the F-Type V8S, but here it makes 550PS and 680Nm of torque. The lightweight aluminum-bodied sports car is now capable of going from 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds, and reaching a top speed of 186 mph.

It would be nice if Project 7 has a manual gearbox, but the power is delivered to the rear wheels via the same production 8-speed ZF auto. The suspension, meanwhile, is lowed a further 10mm, and the body is fitted with a bespoke carbon-fibre kit, consisting of a new front splitter, side skirts and rear diffuser; lowered windshield and restyled front bumper.

The Project 7 F-Type is a single-seater car. The passenger seat has been replaced with a sort of cubbyhole for the driver’s helmet and gear.

Project 7 is a single-seater sports car based on the F-TYPE, with the kind of racing-inspired form that designers dream about. It has one purpose: to be driven fast and enjoyed. Jaguar sports cars are known for exceptional performance and clean design. Project 7 captures that spirit in its purest form.” Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar
