BMW announced the launch of a new version of its 2014 X5, and a new member of their super diesel models. It is the X5 M50d, powered by the famous tri-turbo in-line six-cylinder diesel engine. It mixes efficiency, performance, and versatility, all in one good-looking package.

Well, may be not that good-looking. But still, the 2014 BMW X5 M50d offers a unique combination of desirable qualities. With a maximum output of 280 kW/381 hp and peak torque of 740 Newton metres / 546 lb-ft, this model slots between the entry-level diesels and the high-end V8 petrol.

With the help of an intelligent xDrive four-wheel-drive system, the BWM X5 M50d accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds – amazing for a car of this size – while averaging 6.7 litres/100 km (42.2 mpg imp) with a 177 g/km CO2 rating.

While not a full M car, the BMW X5 M50d does benefit from a couple of M-sourced features, such as the sport adaptive suspension, Dynamic Damper Control, 19-inch M alloy wheels, M-designed aero kit with different bumpers, skirts and spoilers, and an M’d up interior with sport seats, steering wheel, trimming and badges.

2014 BMW X5 M50d will launch in Europe in November. Pricing is yet to be revealed.
