The new 2014 BMW 328d diesel has now received its official EPA ratings and price tags, and is ready to be launched in the American market. Everything about the 328d is the same as every otehr F30 series you’ve come across, except for what’s under the bonnet.
That is a 2.0 liter twin-turbo four-cylinder diesel engine with aluminum engine block, Variable-Geometry Turbo technology and latest-generation common-rail direct injection, capable of developing 180 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. Mated to the renowned ZF 8-speed automatic transmission, this engine enables the 328d to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7 seconds.
The performance is not brilliant, but that’s a small price to pay for the amazing fuel economy that diesel engine delivers. The car is rated at 45 mpg highway / 32 mpg city /37 mpg combined. The 328d is equipped as standard with auto start/stop and brake energy recovery system. There is also the ECO PRO mode that adjust the engine’s output characteristics and gear change to save fuel.
2014 BMW 328d is available with rear-wheel-drive (priced from $38,600), and xDrive all-wheel-drive ($40,600).
