Diesel-Powered Alpina D3 Set For Frankfurt Debut

Following the BMW XD3, Alpina is reportedly readying another souped-up diesel Bimmer, to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show next month. Based on the 3-Series F30 saloon, the Alpina D3 is pretty much the same as the famous B3, except it’s got a twin-turbo 3.0 liter straight-six diesel under the bonnet.

It is the same engine that powers the XD3 SUV, and makes 350 horsepower and a massive 700 Nm of torque. In accordance with the 3-Series range, the Alpina D3 will be available exclusively with the ZF 8-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel-drive, while xDrive all-wheel-drive models will also become available later on.

Despite being a diesel and therefore eco-minded, the D3 is said to be capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4,9 seconds and reaching a top speed of 280 km/h. So it is quite a performer. And there will be no way of telling it’s a diesel, because of Alpina’s cool and understated visual treatment.

Just like the B3, the D3 will also benefit from sport suspension, large Alpina wheels, and an Alpina interior treatment.
