As you may recall a few months ago Caterham announced the launch of a new entry-level version of the Seven that would be cheap, simple, and efficient. True to their word, they have now revealed that this simple Seven will be powered by a 660 cc three-cylinder turbocharged Suzuki engine.
Compared to a normal, full-fat Seven, this car will have a re-engineered chassis and different suspension layout. The gearbox, a 5-speed manual, is also Suzuki-sourced, but upgraded by Caterham Technology & Innovation (CTI).
The new engine will make the Seven even lighter, so the performance should be on the par with the models powered by the big Ford engine. But the main goal in choosing this powertrain, according to Caterham, was to “improve fuel economy and reduce vehicle emissions.”
Specs and details of the car are yet to be revealed, but Cterham has already confirmed that it will be priced under £17,000. The new model will be launched in Autumn.
