Taking a leaf out of Lexus’ book, Infiniti is working on a halo supercar, and just like their fellow Japanese, they are taking their sweet time. Latest reports suggest this technologically-advanced supercar should be ready for sale by 2018.
They have been working on this project for over a year, but now that relationship with Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team has reached new heights, Infiniti can utilize some of that F1 know how in developing their supercar. It will almost certainly feature an F1-derived KERS hybrid system, coupled to a twin-turbo V6 engine, probably sourced from the GT-R.
That, and the car’s layout and design, are still being evaluated at Infiniti. The top brass is only going to greenlight the project when they have a full lineup of new saloons and SUVs in place. So if they ended up losing money over an ambitious supercar project, which they probably will, it won’t affect the daily business.
“We are still evaluating the layout,” Infiniti’s European boss, Fintan Knight, told Autocar. “It is still on the table for a decision. The same goes for the powertrain.“
