Instead of a Black Series version, the new Mercedes CLA 45 AMG gets a Racing Series variant. To be officially revealed at the Frankfort Motor Show, the CLA 45 AMG Racing Series is a new customer race car that joins the SLS GT3 in the motorsport lineup.

Mercedes has not yet released the technical details of this model, but given the fact that the standard CLA 45 AMG’s 2.0 liter turbo engine is the most powerful of its kind in the world, chances are the Mercedes CLA 45 AMG Racing Series uses the same exact powertrain. But it will probably be rear-wheel-drive only, and not all-wheel-drive, and you will probably find a racing transmission is place of the standard car’s 7-speeder.

What’s more, the car boasts a full racing body kit with large air intakes, an air splitter, buffed up fenders, wider sills, and a big rear diffuser. We can already see many aftermarket body kits for the CLA 45 inspired by this car.

The Mercedes CLA 45 AMG Racing Series will make its debut at IAA alongside the new CLA 250 Sport model. It is said that the CLA 45 RS will be the star of its very own one make racing series.
