There really isn’t as much competition in the electric motorsport scene yet. Using this to their advantage, Drayson Racing is setting as many speed records as they can, securing a prominent place in the history of electric motoring. The latest certificate they’ve received is the World Electric Land Speed Record for sub-999kg vehicles.
The all-electric prototype racing car driven by Lord (Paul) Drayson managed to average 205.139mph over the measured mile and 333.271kph over the measured kilometer (tow-way) on a runway at Elvington Airfield in Yorkshire. The top speed achieved during this run was 219.1mph / 352.6kph.
But that’s not the only recent accomplishment of this incredible EV. They also reckon they have set a new World Electric Record from a standing start over a quarter mile with a time of 9.742 seconds and a top speed of 92.383mph. The records are awaiting FIA approval.
Next year Dryson Racing will be competing in the newly formed Formula E championship. Experiences gained from these record run will give the British team an edge over the rivals, most of whom come from the world of petrol-powered racing.
