This time of year is probably the worst to try and sell a convertible to people like Audi is trying to do. But there is some method to their madness. Audi is now taking order for the new A3 Cabriolet, promising delivery in April 2014 – just in time for UK’s wonderful spring.

Priced from £25,790, the 2014 Audi A3 Cabriolet is an expensive way of doing topless motoring. But it is one of the classiest cars in its class, and it offers features usually reserved for higher-end cars. The car comes with a fast-retracting powered fabric hood that goes up or down in 18 seconds, and can be operated while on the move up to 31 mph. A more sound-absorbent acoustic soft top with three-layer inner padding is offered as standard on Sport and S line versions.

Speaking of trim levels, the new A3 Cab will be available with a choice of SE, Sport or S line specification. Standard equipment at entry level includes the fully automatic hood finished in black, plus 16-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, the MMI radio incorporating an 11 millimetre-thick powered folding screen, Audi Music Interface iPod connection, DAB digital radio, a Bluetooth interface, preparation for SD card-based navigation and a light and rain sensor package.

Engine choices include a 140PS 1.4 TFSI with a six-speed manual transmission, a 180PS 1.8-litre TFSI with a seven-speed S tronic twin-clutch transmission, and a 150PS 2.0 TDI diesel. More engine options will become available next year. You also have a choice of three no-cost suspension options. Our advice is to skip everything with “adaptive” and “sport” in it, and just go for the most comfortable setup.
