Lotus is adding a new motorsport variant to the Elise lineup, making it even harder to keep track of what’s what in there. This is the Lotus Elise S Cup R, and it is a full-on track car with lots of racing gear fitted as standard, available for the reasonable price of £39,125.
Power comes from a 1.8 litre DOHC 4 cylinder, dual VVT-i, 16 valve, boosted with a Magnuson R900 supercharger, and mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. Suspension is standard Elise, uprated using TCA Kit with adjustable dampers, while the brakes feature 288 mm diameter, 26 mm thick front and rear cast-iron cross-drilled & ventilated discs.
The body of the Lotus Elise S Cup R is fully kitted-out for track work, with a large front splitter, side skirts, hardtop, and a big rear wing. The car weighs only 924 kg thanks to stuff like Polycarbonate Rear Screen and forged alloy wheels.
Other racing bits and bobs fitted to the Lotus Elise S Cup R include a motorsport specification triple-pass radiator; quick Release Steering Wheel; HANS driver seat; 6-Point race harness; battery isolator; FIA compliant rollcage and fire extinguisher.
In a very unLotus-like move, the Norfolk-based company lets you have an air conditioning system if you like, and they can fit a passenger seats as well. All this stuff cost extra, of course, as do the FIA fuel cell and lighter motorsport wheels.
