Luxgen, in case you’ve forgotten, is a Taiwanese automaker trying to be the next Kia. They just unveiled a new vehicle called the U6, and it seems to be a cross between a SUV, a family sedan, and an MPV. They say the principles used to design and build this car are Beauty, Cool, and Innovation. It’s Taiwanese beauty and cool and innovation, mind you.
The Luxgen U6 turbo may not seem very interesting at first, but it is a rather clever piece of kit. For one thing, it is overcompensating for its lack of charm and style with an endless list of features. Take safety features for instance. The U6 comes with DAS+ integrated driver alert system consists of FCW+ Forward Collision Warning System, PDS+ Pedestrian Detection System, LDWS+ Lane Departure Warning System, Active Eagle View+ 360 degree surround imaging system, Side View+ blind spot and rear view monitoring system and Night Vision+ high sensitivity night vision system.
It is the same story with the standard kit: Power retracting stereo tweeter speakers, LED/LCD instrument panel, Cruise Control, Nappa leather covered steering wheel, steering wheel-mounted controls, six-way power adjustable driver’s seat, steering column shift paddles, Intelligent anti-theft driver’s seat, Aeronautical centre console, Engine push start button, power retracting HUD head up display, Night driving mode.
Luxgen U6’s piece de resistance is its HTC Smartphone sync system that enables voice command system. Engine-wise, the car can be has with either a 1.8L 150hp unit, or a 2.0L with 170hp. A 6-speed automatic transmission is used on 2.0L model and a 5-speed intelligent automatic is used on the 1.8L model. A whole host of acronyms are at hand: ABS, EBD, EPS, ESC, TCS.
In terms of practicality, Luxgen U6 Turbo offers 60/40 one-touch quick-folding rear seat, powered tailgate, eight cupholders, an umbrella holder, and numerous pockets, hangers, glasses holders, drawers and tissue box. The interior was designed by someone who knew the needs of a large family.
Luxgen U6 is currently only available in Taiwan, but some day real soon it will come to a showroom near you in Europe. So you better recognize!
