Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG), the racing division of the Japanese car maker that operates out of Germany, has come up with a rally version of the Toyota GT86 sports car. Built to comply with FIA R3 regulations, the GT86 rally car will be sold to privateers and independent teams.
Full details are yet to be announced, but it seems the only stock element of the GT86 rally car, codenamed CS-R3, will be the body. Everything else is either changed or improved for the competition version.
Toyota has confirmed the car will get a more powerful engine, a limited-slip differential, uprated suspension, brakes, and wheels. Meanwhile the luxury amenities of the cabin will be replaced with a roll cage, racing seats, racing harness, and a fire extinguishing system.
Toyota GT86 rally car will be one TMG’s offerings in a long line of race-prepped cars for their customer motorsport program set to launch in 2015.
TMG head of customer motorsport Nico Elhert said: “The GT86 CS-R3 promises to be a thrilling car on the rally stages; with rear-wheel drive we can expect some dramatic action which is sure to be entertaining for drivers and fans alike. We expect demand to be high so we are looking forward to seeing a lot of GT86 CS-R3 rally cars in action.”
