The UK-spec Audi Q3 is now available with the firm’s cherished 1.4 TFSI engine, which delivers excellent fuel economy and makes the car even duller than before. Paired with a manual gearbox, the TFSI unit manages 47.9mpg and 137 g/km CO2.

That kind of economy, of course, costs you performance. With 150 Ps and maximum torque of 250Nm, the Q3 1.4 struggles to 60 mph in 9.2 seconds and can barely hit 126 mph tops. We suppose you don’t buy a car like this for speed, but still, bad performance affects the overall ownership experience big time.

You can get a six-speed S tronic transmission which reduces the 0 to 60 time to 8.9 seconds. It’s not that big a difference, but hey.

The 2014 Audi Q3 comes with a new S line Plus specification, which for a premium of £2,350 over S line trim offers 19-inch ‘five segment spoke’ design, privacy glass, a choice of seven metallic paint finishes – Ice silver, Samoa orange, Monsoon grey, Caribou brown, Platinum beige, Cobalt blue and Glacier white. Inside it comes with perforated leather and Alcantara, cruise control, the Audi parking system plus and SD card-based satellite navigation via the 6.5-inch colour display.
