The new 2014 BMW M3 sedan and M4 coupe made their show debut at the 2014 NAIAS, and now do a great job of distracting everybody with their mesmerizing blend of style and performance. Honestly, if you go to BMW’s booth and see these two, you are going to miss the rest of the show because you just want to stay there and stare at them.
The new BMW M3 and M4 are both powered by the same high-revving six-cylinder in-line engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology, developing 430 horsepower and peak torque of 550 Newton metres (406 lb-ft). They do come with a manual gearbox, but if you want to get the best of the engine – a o to 60 time of 4.1 seconds, for example – you have to get the optional seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission.
The M4 Coupe weighs 1,497 kilograms, and the sedan a little more than that. They are not particularly lightweight cars, but thanks to the magic of M chassis and suspension, they get out of their own ways pretty good. The new M cars are fast and agile, and they have a trick differential at the back that allows plenty of sideways fun. They even have a secret burnout function for crying out loud!
BMW Plant Munich will host production of the new BMW M4 Coupe, while the BMW M3 Sedan will be built at BMW Plant Regensburg. These magnificent vehicles will go on sale later this year. For now, let’s check out some live photos of them from Detroit Motor Show:
